Southwest Medical Office Building
Albuquerque, New Mexico
Terraced on a steeply sloped site adjacent to a residential neighborhood, the Southwest Medical Office Building faces the Sandia Mountains and overlooks the Rio Grande River Valley. Cubist building volumes respond to the powerful views. Interior spaces feature Venetian plaster and large windows to frame views. Sloped skylights bring day light to the interior spaces.
The simple building plan creates clarity of circulation and program and flow efficiency. A high wall divides the 16,000 sf building into public and clinical spaces. Color is used as a way finding tool to guide patients through exam and procedure room pods. The plan anticipates future expansion by master planning for additional pods.
